Re-cap for Catch up

I am trying figure out how to keep up with this blog and where I am at in the wedding planning. I feel like I have to play catch up. So here is a brief cap of whats happened and where we are at right now.

  • He proposed
  • I immediately wanted to discuss all the ideas I had and talk about setting a date.
  • He wanted the engagement period to set in, get used to the idea. And he wanted to get married withing 9 months to a year.
  • As a bride I needed to give him his time of when he would be ready to talk and plan.
  • Come to find out my groom was thinking of setting a date 2-3 months before the wedding.
  • I explained to him how much time we needed, specially if we are on a budget. Yes, you can plan a wedding in just a few months, if you have the money to spend.
  • We set a day to sit down and go over what needs to be done and discussed a budget.
  • So we have found a place to have the ceremony and reception for a steal and I mean a steal, its awesome, it helps to know people.
  • I am pricing out party rental companies
  • We decided on what is important and not important, like china vs. elegant plastic plates.
  • I felt like it was important to me to tell him my expectations and find out his. We agreed that the most important thing is to get married and share that moment with our friends and family. And this wont happen if we need to have the traditional elegant wedding.

My important Bride Tip:

Bride Tip#1 No expectations on the groom

Find out what your groom is willing to help out with and what you, the bride, can do with your girls and moms. Remember, he is a guy and color scheme, favors and flowers are most likely not his thing. Don't push him to be interested in those things, it might push him to not be interested in the whole wedding talk all together.

Bride Tip #2 Don't try to people please the guest

If my guest have a problem with eating off of plastic vs. china, do I really want them at my wedding. Are they here to share our beautiful union, or to have a fancy expensive dinner.

Getting Organized to keep my sanity!

So after finding out in the beginning of December that he planned on proposing, I tried to forget and to not plan in my head, but come on get real I couldn't help it, could you? I went on line every now and then and looked at ideas and saved them to a wedding folder in my favorites. I had two months of web surfing ideas and well a girls lifelong day dreaming of my wedding say swirling through my head.

When the time came to get my head organized, I bought a binder and many dividers.

My Wedding Folder tabs:
Contact Info
Budget
Venue
Rentals
Catering
Attire
Photographer/Videographer
DJ/Music
Officiant/Marriage License
Decorations
Guest List
Invitations
Accommodations/ Transportation

I printed out a to-do list, which breaks down what needs to be done at what stage of the wedding process and added it to the binder.

We're getting Married!!!!

He popped the question and I said Yes!!!!

Now its time to start planning the wedding. Wow exciting, scary, stressful and well every feeling that will come along with trying to plan a beautiful wedding on a budget.

I have been thinking that we don't have to break the bank for our special day, we just need to be creative. And if there is one thing that I have on my side is Creativity.

My challenge is to plan a beautiful wedding as inexpensive as possible.

So here my journey begins, with help from my BFF/ Maid of Honor, soon to be mother-in-law, and many friends. Hey, can't forget about my handsome groom who, yes, will be helping too.
